I always get stuck when it comes to writing. I will sit at the computer for hours and instead of doing my homework which I should be doing, I am exploring the internet. Going on social media websites and shopping online. It really bothers me because I really do try but I guess I am not trying hard enough. Sometimes I try to picture my ideas in my head and try to translate them on to paper but that doesn't seem to work. I don't know what to do because I know I have the potential to do the work but its just not working out for me. Not knowing what steps to take next I read 6 Ways To Be a Hemingway-Level Productive BADASS By Drake Baer and by reading this article it helped me come up with 6 ways for my writing process.
1) Get Some Good Food To Eat!
Now I know I sound very greedy but when you eat good you feel good and I don't know about you but when I eat good food I am in a better mood and feel better. Sometimes the things you eat can inspire your mood and then inspire what you end up writing. You might have a flash back on when you mother cooked dinner for your family and next thing you know that turns into your next story. I always try to tell people to but yourself in a good mood when your about to do something because there's a big chance that you'll do a better job rather than being in a mad mood and doing a lousy job.
2)Go To a Quiet and Comfortable Space
My mothers room is such a great place for me to go to when I need to think and write. Her room has a lot of space and her bed is so comfortable I can just zone out and take a nap if I need to. Her room is painted an off white color which sets a mellow tone. I love when it turns into night time because she lives her front window crack and a couple cool breezes are able to sneak in which is very relaxing. I think the main reason why I love to go in my mom room to help me get in my zone for writing is because my mom inspires me so much and I look at her as inspiration so even when she is not here, I can go in her room which reminds me of her to so it likes she's basically there.
3) Zone Out and Listen to Music
I love listening to music. I listen to all different types of music. I think music inspires me and has a influence on me depending on what type of mood I am in. When I can't think of anything to write about, I put on my favorite song and think, What would Beyonce do ? I'm just joking but I do listen to music sometimes for inspiration. I think music plays a role in our society so why can't in play a huge role in are writing. Sometimes people can relate to the music they listen to so they write about the connection to the song and turn it into a story.
4) Take a Nap and Come Back to it Later
Now this step did not help me at all! I would be so tired from work and then would have to come home and do school work so I would promise myself to take a 30 min nap and then get right to the school work. You know what would happen? I wouldn't wake up to hours later, being more tired than I was before. I'm working full time and a part-time student so I have a lot on my plate so it's important to find a balance so you won't be behind in your school work but can also breath still and have a life. So this step overall did not work out for me and I wouldn't suggest this to anybody else this works for you.
5) Talk to relatives and Friends to Inspire
Just by having a simple conversation with someone your close with can inspire your next story. I talk to my best friend at least once a today depending my school and work schedule and just from him telling me about his day at work can be apart or inspire me to write my next story. Your life is an open book and if you allow it, you can challenge it and turn it into something great.
6) Take a Deep Breath and Don't Over Think It
Sometimes we as people we over think it. Writing is not post to be hard, its about expressing yourself. You can always go back and fix your work like your first draft is not going to be your final draft. Sometimes the best way to think is to not think and just do it. And I know that sounds crazy but when you try to focus so much on one thing you come up with nothing. You just have to sometimes go with the flow and start writing about nothing which will eventually turn into something. So lets all take a deep breath here and don't think, just write and see how far you get with something out of nothing.
